The Name Game

We've just been told by my Dr. that the due date for our little boy has been moved up, by 2 weeks! So that means I am now expecting on May 29th. And of course with the baby, must come a name, so what's in a name anyway? everyone has an opinion, a thought, a suggestion, a story...which is great i actually love hearing it all. The list we had grew and grew and grew and after it was all said and done we had over a hundred names. PHEW! a lot of them i knew weren't going to make the cut but it's still fun going through. Brent's sister Michelle gave me a couple of great books, one with all the names you could imagine and the other a book about what NOT to name your child, which was pretty funny! So over coffee I read the names off to Brent. He's more yes/no than I am, which is great. I like the stories, the meanings the weird sounds that names make and he will just say "No". Which definately helps put things in perspective. So...once we did that the list was minimized to...drumroll please...10 names, yep 10. Props to Rory for making a good case for his 2 recommendations: Drift and Otis. Brent quickly took those off but Rory gave us some insight into how cool those would be. We laughed...then quickly moved on...haha! So here's the final list in all it's glory, the best part is that everyone is going to have to wait to see what we actually pick!
Zeke
Osiris
Scully or Skulli
Kazuhito (Kaz)
Aquila
Skiba
Izzy
Tycho
Albie
Milo
Variations we're considering:
Zeke Osiris French
Scully Osiris French
Zeke Skulli Osiris French
Milo Albie French
Tycho Albie French
we'll I think you get the idea!

CSCI 105

So I FINALLY! made it over to the college bookstore to pick up the books for my computer science classes. Yes, I decided to take the plunge and take a class in computer science. Since I've changed jobs here at work I've felt like I'm in physics class everyday, and i've never taken a physics course. So I'm trying to learn the basics, i.e., learn addition before algebra. Also, in the interest of my career I'd really like to know more about the interworkings of computer science so I can be more well versed for the team and the end product (ewww i'm turning into a computer geek). Funny thing is that so much of this (meaning technology) goes against my grain. I'm more of an instinctive, creative thinker and the mechanics of computers is quite the opposite of...well me! But it's good to learn something new, maybe help with my left brain thinking...or not, we'll see...I'll keep you posted!

Hearts Afire...Love's Desire

So here are some new pics of Sephra and Ahnu (aka Dad) that I took with the intention of using for a Valentine's Day card. The card is now done and I can't wait for everyone to get theirs'. They turned out SO cute!

Custom Greeting

Okay, so after the goo gone incident and an okay mexican dinner at El Galleon with the family. I got home and felt re-inspired to make my first greeting cards. Gathered up the supplies that I had and got to crafting. They turned out good and it actually didn't take too long to put them together. I used card stock paper, mod podge, thank you stickers for the inside, ribbon to hold the two sections of card together, and envelopes that I added card stock to as well to make them more custom to the cards. In the end I do actually think I saved a lot of money since most greeting cards will run you $2-3 dollars each or more for some nicer ones. These were made for my Mom & Paul, and grandparents. The last image is Sephra's addition to the cards.

Poison Control

Yeah, thank god i had the sticker on the phone! honestly i never thought i'd be calling them, but i have to say they were SO good! So i went to Michael's yesterday with a list of a few things to get: crayon sharpener, patches and greeting card supplies. i was in the paintbrush aisle trying to find brushes that weren't made of animal hair. sephra's had this habit lately of pulling the stroller shade over her and usually she just sits with it like that. but it was one of those mommy moments where you realize your child is just TOO quiet. so i come around and she's got a bottle of goo gone in her hand with the lid off! goo gone on her hands, shirt and the better part of her nose and mouth. needless to say I WAS HORRIFIDE!!! I asked her if she drank it and she nodded really slow, YES, she knew by the look on my face that it wasn't a good thing. I couldn't believe she'd gotten the 'child-proof' lid off. I called brent immediately and asked him for the poison control # from the sticker on the phone and called them. the lady on the other end was great, she asked me a few questions and then said it was going to be okay. sephra had most likely only swallowed a tbsp. full and it was the generic goo gone, which is mostly made of oil. but if she experienced any coughing that was a sign to go to the emergency room because this meant she got the oil in her lungs, which could cause pneumonia. the oil in her stomach would probably only cause some mild diahrrea. the lady told me to watch her in the next hour which i did like a mama hawk with her babies and the snakes around! I was stressed OUT! Everything turned out okay, she was fine but I felt horrible. I think what happened was someone had the bottle before she got it and didn't put the cap back on properly because when i put the cap on I tried to open it back up and there was no way sephra would have been able to get that off by herself. Lesson learned, child-proof cap doesn't mean child proof at ALL!

Laird & Expresso

I think that's all I need to say. I started reading through the Laird Hamilton book Brent got me and WOW, is this guy amazing or what! I was totally inspired to rejuvenate everything (well almost everything) in my life. He just has such a direct, no-nonsense approach to health, fitness and spirituality. I've always loved Gabby Reese even before she was the famous model. She's just a beautiful person inside and out and she's super funny when I see her on interviews. What a cute couple they are. I'm really excited to read the book front to back. Sometimes with the self-help, inspirational books I find myself skipping through rather than reading beginning to end because there's not really 'a storyline' but I think maybe there is, at the very least a flow. I'll keep you posted with my a-ha moments from the book. One thing that Laird speaks about that is little but I love is having expresso, he doesn't believe in brewed coffee (neither do the europeans. He has 4-8 cups of expresso a day, I LOVE THAT!!! I want an expresso machine, can I add that to the do list? oh yeah and super props to my husband for surprising me with the book!

hidden in the to-do's

So I had this to-do list with 20 items on it (see below). There is something really gratifying about crossing things off a to-do list, is there some secret hidden meaning in this gratification? Anyways I actually vaccummed my car and cleaned it out last night, and thought, hey I need to add this to the to-do list even though it's already done...haha...gold star for me! i had planned on heading for the gym but sephra was having so much fun playing in the backyard i decided to just clean out the car instead. so when i got in this morning, YEA, so nice that it was all CLEAN!
#1 breathe

First day seems like forever

So I've decided to start the 'french babbette' blog to chronical things in my life and make it easier for friends and family to get in touch and keep in touch. I want a portal for them to view new pictures of Sephra and the growing family, and maybe get a laugh or cry out of things that I write about that seem ordinary to me in my everyday life.
